Welcome to the Newton FC Official
Web Site
Newton FC originally formed in 1978 as
Tameside Teachers playing in the now defunct Manchester Amateur League. After
great success we moved to the Lancashire and Cheshire League in 1989.
As the team numbers grew we expanded to 4
Teams, using the brilliant facilities of ICI Hyde and taking the companies
name. As a result of various
take-overs of the company and its facilities, we have also played as Westons
Hyde, & Vymura. In 1999 the
Vymura company went into administration and the facilities were mothballed
with the aim of being turned into housing leaving us with no home.
In 2000 we became Newton FC but we were
shunted around the area, having to play at GMB Buses Mount Road, Blockstages
Dukinfield, and one season at Stalybridge Celtic’s home ground of Bower Fold,
but wanted to return to our spiritual home of Newton. In 2003 after Tameside
Council had spent thousand on upgrading the changing facilities and
reclaiming the old college pitches across the road on Victoria Street we
returned to Newton with post-matches at The Railway Pub. Our successes in
that time have included 1 double, 2 league championships and 2 cups.
We have now an established post-match
relationship with The Crown and Cushion Pub 100 yards down from the changing
facilities.
Training during the season is done at the
local Clarendon College 6th Form Sports Centre, Clarendon Road,
Newton, Hyde, on Tuesday nights from 20.00-21.00 (£2 each), Pre-Season is
done on Garden Street/ Victoria Street and out of season Saturday 5 a side
Astley School & on Astroturf @
Copley
We have developed a number of players who
have gone onto a Higher Level including Garry Burke former Captain of Droylsden
FC now of Stalybridge Celtic, and former Stalybridge Celtic Captain Kevin
Parr.
