Weekend games 30-1
Round Up:-
The
First team travelled to Stockport only for the game to fall foul of the
frozen pitch. The seconds hosted title chasing Old Choltonians and put up a
pathetic show.2-0 down at half time due to sloppy defending it got worse in
the second half with Cholts adding another 5….The Thirds had a delayed kick
off due to the referees uncertainty ono which pitch was playable eventully
starting out on the originally identified pitch they ran out 3-1- winners.

Weekend games 23-1
Round Up:-
The
First Team hosted Stoconians in this top of the table clash and it was the
visitors who came away with the points, a lacklustre performance was put down
to the lads not playing for so long due to the snow of the last few weeks. The
Seconds were due to take on Newton Heath who we were told on the Friday night
were struggling to put out a team and not to much surprise they rang at 12.15
to say that the pitch was waterlogged and so the game could not go ahead….The
thirds then travelled to title chasing Deans, with no referee for this game and
nobody from Deans able to do it, the position fell to the watching Newton Second
Team Manager Steve Worthington to
step into the fray. In a well contested game, and Waz Hulme having a
nightmare, Deans won out 3-1 victors.

Weekend games 12-12
Round Up:-
With
Tameside making an early decision to call off all of Newton’s pitches the
only remaining fixture was the first teams away visit to a revamped
Choltonians side. Both sides competed on a boggy pitch that did not add to
the viewing pleasure. Newton took the lead halfway through the first half
when a long diagonal high ball was flapped at by the Cholts keeper who
thought that it would drift harmlessly wide but Karl Fletcher had other ideas
and had snuck in around the back and stuck out his long leg to guide the ball
home. Cholts pinched an equalizer shortly before half time after Newton’s
defence failed to clear their lines following a corner and the Cholts
midfielder guiding his shot past the unsighted keeper. The second half was
again a battle in midfield with very few chances created from either side.
Final score Choltonian’s 1 – Newton 1
Weekend games 5-12
Round Up:-
2
Away games this week with the 1sts in Division 1 travelling to Irlam and the
3rds going to top of the league Choltonians.
The Firsts enjoyed a pleasant turn around from last weeks poor
performance with a stunning 4-1 win, Goals from Sam Scott, Graham Dolling and
2 from Jordon Hodge in a one sided game that puts the first team back to the
top of the league. The third team were awful, with the seconds having no game
this team on paper should have walked this game, unfortunately, that’s what
most players were doing. Poor marking, bad decision-making, and a lack of the
final ball to the front line, led to Cholts being 4-0 up at half time. Macca
in his last game in charge was not a happy man at half time and read the riot
act. The second half was much better and Newton started to compete. Although
they conceded again they also got one themselves after a good driving run and
neat pass from Shopan found Simon Hadfield in the box, he jinked around and
slammed the ball into the top right hand corner. Final Score Cholts 5 -
Newton 1.

Weekend games 28-11
Round Up:-
With
the weather again effecting all fixtures the only game remaining for Newton
this week was in the Manchester County Cup Quarter Final, where the Newton’s
first team travelled to the new 3G Astro Pitches ay Wright Robinson Academy
taking on long time rivals East Manchester. Unfortunately, some of the Newton
team had not taken the importance of the game seriously and as a consequence,
let their team-mates down by spending the previous night out partying. East
Manchester started quickly, their slick passing, higher energy levels and
superior ball control combined by Newton’s lack of effort / inability closing
the players down saw them romp to an unassailable 5-0 at half time. The half time tem talk was frank and to
the point, and in the second half Newton put in a tighter performance,
holding the game at the 5-0 score to full time.

Weekend games 21-11
Round Up:-
With
Tameside making an Early decision to deem all pitches unplayable the only
fixture remaining for Newton this week was in the A Division where the
seconds travelled to Hazel Grove. Playing on a Tiny Junior Pitch. The match
was tight with gusting winds meant the ball spent too much time in the air
and bypassing the midfields. The first half saw few opportunities, the best
of which came to Aaron Blunt, who, after a flowing move down the right and a
lovely pull back from Paul Wood, Blunts shot was instinctively saved by the
keeper who was going the wrong way but flung out a desperate hand to push the
ball wide. In the second half Hazel Grove started the stronger and after a
good 5 minute spell a rash challenge from Shopan in the box gifted them a
penalty. Up stepped the Grove forward who placed the ball hard and low to
Rick’s right hand side, Rick though, got down to it brilliantly and pushed it
wide of the post. Grove kept the pressure up and from another attack a shot
was pushed over by an agile Rick Wild. A substitution was made and Andy
Morris came on. From the ensuing corner Newton broke quickly with some fine
quick passing from one end of the pitch to the other and who pops the ball in
the net? None other than Andy “First Touch” Morris. Newton doubled the tally
when Morris closed down the Grove right midfielder on the halfway line and
punted the ball long towards the Grove net. The wind took the ball and the
keeper flapped, new boy Ricky Blunt chased it all the way and tapped home.
MOM Rick Wild.

Weekend games 14-11
Round Up:-
In the 1st Division, Newton FC first team
took on Hollingworth OB in a switched fixture on the Garden Street pitch and
despite appalling weather conditions and a growing mud puddle they dominated
the game, According to the Newton Management they should have been out of
sight by half time but wasteful finishing kept Hollingworth in it. Finally
Ben Blease headed home a corner and despite more chances, that’s how it
finished Newton 1- Hollingworth OB 0. In the A Division, the Seconds
travelled to fellow strugglers Gatley and turned in a fantastic performance
after going 1-0 down to an early Gatley goal when the striker cashed in on
the indecision between Lee Watkins and Keeper Rick Wild to nip in and slot
home. Newton were playing the better football creating chances through
patient build up play and it was rewarded when a move that was started with
passing across the Newton Back four into the midfield who played in winger
Paul Wood who finished well. Half time 1-1…The second half started the same
pattern with just the final ball missing from making a break through, A
substitution brought around a change in tactics and New boy Kev Edge
challenged the keeper from a long ball from Paul Wood and with both missing
the ball it crept into the far post. Edge then got on the scoresheet himself,
followed by a brilliant passing moved from Andrew Foukes interchanging 2
passes from the halfway line then slamming home just inside the box. Edge then
doubled his tally when good work from substitute Swindles who’s cross to the
far post was volleyed into the danger zone by Warren Hulme to be hit home by
Edge. A great team performance final score Gatley 1- Newton 5. MOM New Boy
Kevin Edge. The third team game unfortunately was postponed.

Weekend games 7-11
Round Up:-
A wash out weekend saw few games played. The one
surviving fixture for Newton FC was the seconds away to Top of the league
unbeaten Bedians. The seconds battled hard to frustrate the in form Bedians
side and in the first half and deserved to go in level, but for a rash flick
of the leg by Lee Bowden giving away a penalty in the last 5 mins, that was
gleefully converted by the Bedians forward sending Rick Wild diving the wrong
way. “The Referee commented at half time that he couldn’t tell who was top
and who was bottom”. The second half was more of the same till some poor
tracking of the Bedians winger led to a wild shot that Lee “OG” Watkins
managed to turn in…Bedians had the better of the second half and grabbed a
third in the dying minutes again the winger getting free and pulling back to
the onrushing forward who’s shot was deflected of John Hobday’s Arse… Man of
the Match was Mitch McPherson…Bedians 3- Newton 0…

Weekend games 31-10
Round Up:-
The First team travelled to last years Premier League
runners up Rochdalians in the cup and came up with an amazing performance,
kicking off late with only 8 men due to traffic problems, they conceded in
the first minutes. The late players then started to arrive and after five
minutes they were up to 9 men, with others arriving after 15 and 17 minutes.
Newton were back in the game on 20 minutes when Sam Scott equalized and that’s
how the score remained till half time. Newton took the lead on 60 minutes
with a goal from Kevin Rogers, and Player Manager Gareth Cross was applauded
off on 65 mins, only for Rochdalians to then hit back on 70 minutes. With
just 5 minutes remaining Kevin Rodgers again popped up to make it a fantastic
3-2 scoreline.
The 2nds had drawn local rivals Old Ashtonians and after
a bright start with couple of close
heading effors from Lee Watkins they took the lead after Andy McGarrys header
was punched into his own net by the Ashtonians Keeper. Newton then had a
perfectly good goal chalked off for offside when a long ball over the top was
chased by Warren Hulme who lifted over the Ashtonians keeper but onto the
bar, McGgrry had followed the ball in and headed home for the referee to rule
it out to the surprise of even the opposition. So 1-0 at half time.
Ashtonians equalized early in the second half from a long free kick to the
back post was headed home. Newton again took the lead when Warren Hulme,
after missing some easier chances earlier fired a low drive past the Keeper.
Ashtonians pressed on and scored 2 from corners, the Newton players giving
the big Ashtonians players far too much space. Newton then had another goal
ruled out after McGarry pounced onto a loose ball to the keeper and poked
home only again for the referee to call it offside. By this time Newton threw
everything forward and were caught out in the dying minutes with a quick
break and shot to put the tie beyond doubt.
Newton 2 Ashtonians 4. MOM Andy McGarry
The Third team lost 2-1 with a goal from Derek “Big
Geordie “ Wood.

Weekend games 24-10
Round Up
This week the seconds travelled to league leaders
Choltionians with a bare 11 and put on a resilient battling performance. In
the first Newton rode some luck but held firm, frustrating the hosts, the
score-line 0-0 at half time gave everything to play for in the second half.
Cholts then took the lead so Newton had to push and after swapping the team
around a great timed run by Woody was found with a long ball over the top who
then pulled the ball back to Graham Dooling who slotted home an equaliser.
Cholts made some subs to freshen up the side and again took the lead, only to
again be pegged back by a quick break and fine finish from Paul Wood.. Newton
had chances to take the lead with a shot from Graham Dooling going wide, a
long range effort from Andrew Foukes drifting over the bar, a clear run
though for Woody given offside and a free header for Lee Watkins going wide. Into the last 10 and Cholts snatched the
winner. From a long throw into the box flicked on to the striker who pounced
from a yard. A great team effort that deserved a point, with the difference
being the ability of Cholts to freshen the side with subs.. A special mention before everyone else
does to the large number of air shots from the Newton Player Manager who
played like a Subbuteo man..!! More training needed here.... Choltonians 3-
Newton 2… MOM Paul Wood

Weekend games 17-10
Round Up:-
In a battle at the top of the 1st division Newtons 1st
team went down 3-2 to league leaders Stocoinians. In the A division the 2nds
picked up their first league win of the season 2-0 v Gatley and jumped up 6
places from the bottom with a penalty won and converted by Aaron Blunt and
one from Andy McGary who nipped in front of a stranded Gatley keeper. MOM
Arron Blunt. The 3rd team continued
there push for promotion with a battling 4-3 win v. Burnage 2 goals from Simon Hadfield, an
exceptional solo run from Kenny Abbott and a Derek "Big Geordie"
Wood header..

Worthi’s Manager Report:-
Newton 2nds picked up their first league win of the
season 2-0 v Gatley and jumped up 6 places from the bottom to mid table, with
a great display of dominate passing football.
Aaron Blunt won the softest of penalties and converted
it, Andy McGary got the second after a header back to the Gatley keeper by
Graham Dooling didn't quite reach Andy nipped in front of a stranded Gatley
keeper to tap home. He then picked up an ankle injury and was later replaced
by Steve Worthington who squandered 2 chances.. Andy Kirk was a colossus in
front of the back four, Warren Hulme is pushing for a first team left back
spot and Rick Wilde was only tested by the odd free kick.MOM Arron Blunt

Macca’s Manager Report:-
Big Macca does it again!! With Andys Kirk and McGarry moving to the 2nd team and
contributing to a well deserved 2-0 win over Gatley, Simon Hadfield and Davie
White came into the starting line up against Burnage.
With a pre match team talk of "There is nothing to
say because you are all footballers who play football but I want one tactical
change to corners........"
Within minutes of kick off we gained a corner resulting in a bullet
header and goal from Big Geordie. I love it when players listen to me. Simon Hadfield showed his determination to
retain his place by scoring a brace but the golden moment came from veteran
Kenny Abbott belying his age to run the length of the pitch to be on the end
of a fine cross from Swindles and score the winner with only a few minutes
left. Burnage were able to stay in
the game thanks to three bizarre own goals coming from Mark Crowley's arse,
Kenny Abbott's shin and Daz Poulson's flap!! Daz, remember you are the
goalkeeper and you are supposed to catch the fekking ball, that's why you
have gloves.

Weekend games10-10
Round up :-
In the Lancashire and Cheshire league 1st Division
Newton FC chase for a quick return to the top division was hampered losing
away from home to Eagle FC 3-1 with a consolation goal from the penalty spot
converted by Joe Brooks. The seconds went to South Manchester and in a
thrilling game that saw them 2-0 down at half time then 3-2 up after 15 mins
of the second half, they conceded 2 quick fire goals within a minute to end
up losing 4-3, goals from Azad (2) and Scott. MOM Sam Scott. The thirds had a
much better day running out 8-3 winners at home to Spurley Hey the rout
included a stunning double hat-trick by Brian Swindells.

Maccas Manager Report:-
Newton 3rds made light of their reversal the previous
week with an entertaining 8-3 win over Spurley Hey. A double hat trick was
scored by the evergreen Brian Swindles, substitute Simon Hadfield curled one
into the top corner but the best was saved till last when veteran club
Chairman, John McGartland came off the bench and scored a magnificent diving
header from the edge of the box. Credit
to Spurley Hey for a fine game.
